Ask

I always have trouble asking for help. Why? I think there are a myriad of reasons. Pride, being afraid what people will think, not wanting to "owe" somebody, etc.

In America, very early on we learn to be independent. It's the best way to do things... so we're told. It's your choice, your bedroom, your body, your decision, your vote. Everything is about you. You deserve the best, you deserve a break today, be all that you can be.

This logic seems to go against everything I've read about the Church. Community, carrying for one another, sharing with one another... being together. The community of "believers" grew so quickly because this love and care they showed to one another was attractive. It was different than the norm.

Sometimes when we are too proud or afraid to ask for help, we don't give those in the body a chance to give. We take away their opportunity to experience the joy of giving that God provides them with.

So why not try to be a little un-American next time you are in need? Ask, and maybe it will be given to you.
