VoIP

So does anyone out there have Vonage, SunRocket or another VoIP for their home phone? Embarq is killing me with their shoddy DSL and Local Phone to the tune of $75 a month!

Ridiculous!!

I need to make a change... being a TiVo user I also need to know if anyone has experience with using VoIP for daily calls?

I have read a ton of stuff on message boards, but it's always nice to know what your friend's experiences have been.

I've never tried a VoIP service. I think Brian & Suzanne use Vonage. I've toyed with the idea of using Skype 'cause it's so cheap but I like having just one phone number/voicemail box. The cell phone-only thing has really worked well for us for almost 4 years now. It's weird, our kids don't remember what it's like to have a home phone.

We do have Vonage and we like it. It works as well as our traditional phone service used to at a fraction of the cost. The only negative has been about twice a year the line will get staticy (is that a word?). We just reset the modem, and it clears up immediately. We've also noticed that we never get phone solicitations anymore since we switched, which has been an added bonus. We have our calls automatically forwarded to our Brian's cell phone after 4 rings. We don't have to worry about missing a call when we're out, we don't have to give out multiple numbers (if someone doesn't reach us at home, it'll automatically reach us on the other phone), and if the caller ID says it's someone I know is calling for Brian, I just let it go to him rather than having to pick up and take a message.

Sorry for the lengthy comment, but we have been happy with our switch :)
