Thunder Stealer...

If you are an avid listener to any type of talk radio, you will here many callers utter the phrase, "...the last caller kind of stole my thunder." Well, today that is me.

The reason being, Cheryl emailed me yesterday and asked for me to look for a song by Casting Crowns called "Voice of Truth." So I set out to find it (not hard at all, iTunes $0.99).

I think that I have mentioned before that songs appeal to me at first based on whether or not they sound good, not usually based on lyrical content. Cheryl is really drawn to the lyrics. I could have listened to a song a hundred times and then all of a sudden (sometimes to my horror) I figure out what they are talking about.

So Cheryl purchsed "Voice of Truth" last night off iTunes and Googled the lyrics for me and asked me to listen to the song (and read the lyrics) when I was in the right frame of mind (long story, but I have been going a little crazy lately and last night I was certifiably mental). This morning in the quiet as the sun tried to burst through the clouds I listened... and cried like a baby. After all that we have experienced over the last few months, this song hit the deepest parts of me. God is so amazing.

Here is where I steal Cheryl's thunder... posting the lyrics of this song (before she does) for you to enjoy.

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of faith it takes
To climb out of this boat I'm in
on to the crashing waves

To step out of my comfort zone
Into the realm of the unknown where Jesus is
And He's holding out His hand

But the waves are calling out my name
And they laugh at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The waves they keep on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy, you'll never win!"
"You'll never win!"

Chorus:
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

Oh what I would do to have
The kind of strength it takes
to stand before a giant
With just a sling and a stone

Surrounded by the sound of a thousand warriors
Shaking in their armor
Wishing they'd have had the strength to stand

But the giant's calling out my name
And he laughs at me
Reminding me of all the times
I've tried before and failed
The giant keeps on telling me
Time and time again. "Boy you'll never win!"

But the stone was just the right size
To put the giant on the ground
And the waves they don't seem so high
On top of them lookin' down
I soar with the wings of EAGLES
When I stop and listen to the sound of Jesus
Singing over me

Chorus:
But the Voice of Truth tells me a different story
The Voice of Truth says, "Do not be afraid!"
And the Voice of Truth says, "This is for My glory"
Out of all the voices calling out to me
I will choose to listen and believe

I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth

I will listen and believe
I will listen and believe the Voice of truth
I will listen and believe
Cause Jesus you are the voice of truth

Good stuff, man. Casting Crowns may have the "contemporary sound" but their lyrics are revolutionary.

It's all about linking up with the Truth, the reality of our identity in Christ. Sounds simple, but I know from experience it is not. Hang in, like Pastor Tony said today, it is a process...

Welcome to Ohio my friends.

Love you both!
